Are you dreaming of an affordable, energy efficient home, but can’t find anything in your price range? RuralEdge has teamed up with Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA) to give families with lower-incomes the chance to own their own home.
Many properties that have been foreclosed upon sit empty and derelict throughout the state. RuralEdge has partnered with VHFA to acquire, rehabilitate and re-market these foreclosed homes at an affordable price under a program known as HARP (Housing Acquisition and Rehabilitation Program).
Virtually every home processed through the HARP programs undergoes significant energy and aesthetic improvements, such as installation of high efficiency heat plants, energy star replacement windows, air sealing and insulation upgrades, hot water heaters, high efficiency kitchen appliances and light fixtures, or low flow toilets and shower heads.
Additionally, properties are priced to sell for less than the final appraised value of the home, and grants of up to $75,000 are available toward that final purchase price.
When coupled with major improvements and energy saving features, the result is a home that is affordable to buy and maintain, greatly benefiting potential owners.
